Exploring AI and Plasticity in Biomedical Research: CRC1709 Summer School 2026

The CRC1709 Summer School 2026 will take place in Heidelberg on September 1-2, 2026.

The CRC1709 Summer School aims to foster interdisciplinary exchange and provide early-career researchers with practical exposure to emerging approaches in biomedical research. By combining hands-on training with interactive discussion formats, the Summer School seeks to create an accessible learning environment for participants from diverse scientific backgrounds.

The Summer School will consist of two workshop days covering two complementary topics:

  • AI in Biomedical Research: Large Language Models & Vibe Coding
  • Single Cell / Plasticity Atlas

The scientific program is organized by the teams of Jakob Kather and Judith Zaugg. Particular emphasis will be placed on lowering barriers to computational methods and supporting participants with varying levels of coding experience. Our workshop facilitators and assistants will provide guidance adapted to different levels of experience and backgrounds. No previous coding experience is required.

Each CRC1709 Principal Investigator is guaranteed one participation spot for either a PhD student or a postdoctoral researcher from their group. Participation in the Summer School is free of charge.

Researchers outside CRC1709 who are interested in participating are also warmly invited to contact Carsten Müller-Tidow at Carsten.Mueller-Tidow@med.uni-heidelberg.de and Aynur Yu Huang at Yu.Huang@med.uni-heidelberg.de. Depending on capacity, additional participation may be possible.

Further information regarding the detailed program and venue will be shared with registered participants via email after registration.
