The award recognizes Professor Krämer’s pioneering work in the field of Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP). He led the international CUPISCO and national CheCUP clinical studies, respectively, which demonstrated that molecular profiling can guide personalized treatment strategies and significantly improves outcomes for patients with cancer of Unknown Primary. These findings have substantially advanced the field and have already been incorporated into the clinical guidelines of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).

The Paul Martini Prize is awarded annually by the Paul Martini Foundation and is endowed with €50,000. It recognized outstanding achievements in clinical drug research. The award ceremony took place during the annual congress of the German Society of Internal Medicine (DGIM) in Wiesbaden.

Within CRC 1709, Professor Krämer serves as Co-Principal Investigator of Project A04, together with Christoph Plass. The project investigates how mosaic loss of chromosome Y contributes to epigenetic alterations, impaired DNA repair, and increased cellular plasticity in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Using state-of-the-art single-cell multi-omics approaches, the team aims to better understand the molecular mechanisms that drive leukemia development and progression.

Professor Krämer is Head of the Clinical Cooperation Unit Molecular Hematology/Oncology at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and W3 Professor of Molecular Hematology/Oncology at the University Hospital Heidelberg.

We warmly congratulate Professor Krämer on this well-deserved recognition and are proud to have him as part of CRC 1709.
